Ban on flavoured supari to be continued for 6 months

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has increased the span of the ban on flavoured supari for another six months. The ban will be there till July 31, informed Dr Pallavi Darade, Maharashtra FDA Commissioner


  • Few days ago, the government had lifted the ban. But, the government was heavily criticised by the NGOs for the same.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Pallavi Darade, Maharashtra FDA Commissioner said, “The Government has appointed a one-member committee on the ban of flavoured supari. The report of the committee has yet generated. Notifications were issued to maintain the same restrictions as before. The decision regarding the ban will be taken after the report presented by the committee.”

Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, Head and Neck cancer surgeon, Tata Memorial Hospital said, “It is scientifically proved that faloured supari is injurious to health. To curb the number of cancer patients the tobacco products should be banned. Only ban is not enough, this decision should be implemented properly.”
