Asian EUS Congress 2017 is intends to discuss and share his knowledge regarding the Endoscopy Ultra Sound (EUS) procedure. Dr Hiroyuki Isayama, is a senior associate professor in the department of gastroenterology, Juntendo University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan has also participated in the on-going Asian EUS Congress 2017 conference.
While explaining the challenges concerning the wide use of the EUS technique, Dr Hiroyuki Isayama said, “There is no doubt that the EUS procedure is very useful, but it is fairly costly too. The necessary equipment is expensive and also needs to be maintained carefully. Also we need more experts who can perform the EUS procedure accurately. One can know the theory but performing the procedure itself accurately is a different aspect altogether. There should be more trained people, in this field.”
The EUS procedure can be useful in treatment with its minimum invasive characteristics.
Highlighting the utility of EUS in therapeutic procedure Dr Hiroyuki Isayama said, “EUS can be very useful in the diagnosis of cancer, and types of cancer, such as pancreatic cancer. But its efficiency is not only limited to the diagnostic part, but other aspects as well. There is a therapeutic aspect to this technique as well. It is a low invasive procedure and might be done at a lower cost than surgery.”
Dr Hiroyuki Isayama further explained why there should be equal attention towards diagnostic and therapeutic research in EUS.
He said, “Both are equally important factors and we should focus on both. But at the same time, we have to keep in mind that diagnostic cases will be more. In comparison with it, there will be a lesser number of therapeutic cases. As therapeutic EUS procedure is more risky.”
