Known to be a strong advocate for the rights of animals, the actor, in celebration of her 30th birthday, announced her decision to open up an animal shelter on the outskirts of Mumbai, to support her ‘fellow living beings.’
In a birthday Instagram post, she said that inspired by the Dalai Lama, she was wanted to do her bit to give ‘fellow living beings equal rights, equal care and equal love’. Sharma revealed that she is finally ready to materialise her long-borne dream of opening up an animal shelter they will be cared for, loved, protected and nurtured.
While Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr K C Khanna, secretary and head of Parel’s Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals, said. “The initiative which actress Anushka Sharma has taken is welcomed. Mumbai has only one civic-run animal hospital. A number of animals get severely injured in road accidents and birds are injured due to heat and kite thread. They need immediate medical attention. As the number of strays has also increased there is an urgent need of animal shelter home in Mumbai.”
