Andheri bridge collapse: Victim Asmita Katkar slips into coma

Asmita Katkar, a 35-year-old Mumbai resident, and a mother of a 6-year-old boy is battling for her life at Cooper hospital


  • Asmita Katkar is currently admitted in the ICU of the Mumbai’s civic-run Cooper hospital. And she has been put on the ventilator.
  • The doctor treating Asmita said, her condition still remains very critical.
  • Asmita was severely injured on July 03, when Gokhale bridge, near Andheri station, collapsed in the morning.

Asmita was trapped under the debris and was rescued by the fire brigade personnel, and was admitted to Mumbai’s Cooper hospital. Since then, she has been unconscious.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Rajesh Sukhdev, Medical Superintendent of the Cooper Hospital said, “Asmita has slipped into a coma. Her condition is deteriorating. We can’t say when she will come out of the coma. We are trying our level best to save her life. We can’t say anything till the time she responds to the treatment.”

Dr Sukhdev further added, “Asmita was brought to the hospital in a critical condition, she had sustained severe injuries in the bridge collapse  She has been in the coma since she has been brought here. We have done a surgery on her. But her condition remains very critical. She is currently admitted to the ICU and has been put on the ventilator.”

On Tuesday, July 03, Asmita had dropped her child to school and was on her way back home, when the bridge suddenly collapsed. Nine people were injured including, Asmita and the other victim Manoj Mehta are said to be critical.
