In the recently concluded proceedings of the Maharashtra assembly, a controversial issue came to light.

Congress MLC Sanjay Dutt had made a strong objection against the product and demanded that action be taken against Baba Ramdev.

He said that the manufacture and sale of ‘Putrajeevak Beej’ was a violation of the Prohibition of Sex Selection Act and Regulation of Pre-natal diagnostic techniques Act.

Speaking on the floor of the Legislative Council, Dutt said,“Patanjali is marketing this product on the claim that consuming this product will help a woman bear a son. Ramdev’s Patanjali is openly selling Putrajeevak Beej, which targets the ‘beti’, and indulges in crude gender discrimination.”

He added, “I have a strong objection to this claim. The state government is not paying attention to this serious issue. On one hand the government is promoting the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (save girl child, educate a girl child) campaign, but on the other hand, Ramdev’s Patanjali is openly selling Putrajeevak Beej.”

Dutt said, “The state government should ban this product and should seize the product which are available in the market.”
