‘Acidity can be managed with right diet and sleep routine’

Dr Aparna Govil Bhasker who is 39-years-old, suffered from acidity, migraine and PCOS. Though, she has a hectic work schedule, she has been able to manage all of these with ease. Due to lifestyle alterations and proper fitness routine

Dr Aparna Govil Bhasker, Bariatric and Laparoscopic GI surgeon at Global Hospitals and MGM Hospital, swears by her fitness and diet routine. But, Dr Bhasker whose eating habits went haywire during post graduation suffered from acidity, migraine and Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). “My schedule was hectic, due to which my eating habits went terribly wrong. Since last five years, I had acidity.”

Dr Bhasker also had migraine and she took a lot of medications to tackle it. “The medications caused tremors in my hands due to which operating the patient had become difficult. Finally, I stopped the medication. But, I had made up my mind to overcome all of these. And the first step towards it was following a good lifestyle and a fitness routine.”

Talking about fitness and diet, Dr Bhasker said, we doctors are so engrossed in taking care of other that we forget to take care of ourselves. “I changed my diet habits. I started eating on time. Earlier, I never paid attention on eating on time. But now, I see to it that I have my food on time. I avoid oily, spicy and junk food and carry home-made food. My breakfast consists of toast with peanut butter/ upma/ pooha. For lunch and dinner I have roti, subzi, salad, rice and dal. I also eat fruits and nuts and drink a lot of water.”

She added, “I walk four times a week. Sometimes, I also run with my kid. I climb stairs while I am in the hospital.”

Dr Bhasker for whom painting is a stress buster as well as hobby said that if one follows a healthy lifestyle he can manage to keep all the diseases at bay. “I have regulated by diet and sleep pattern which has helped me managed all of the health issues. And since last one-and-half-year, I am leading a healthy life.”
