Ramakant Achrekar, the childhood coach of Sachin Tendulkar, breathed his last at his residence on Wednesday. Along with Sachin, he also groomed many other cricketers on Mumbai Grounds.
The 87-year-old Achrekar served as a cricket coach for decades until he was paralysed in the late 1990s. Besides Sachin, many renowned cricketers, including Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Chandrakant Pandit, Lalchand Rajput, Vinod Kambli, Pravin Amre, Sameer Dighe, Ajit Agarkar, Paras Mhambrey, Ramesh Powar, who represented India took training under him.
Sachin, along with other players paid a visit to Achrekar’s Dadar residence and paid their respect. His last rites will be performed on Thursday.
For his contribution, he was honored with the Dronacharya Award in 1990, and with the Padma Shri award in 2010.
