42-year-old working woman injured in Elphinstone bridge stampede

At least 22 people were killed and 36 are injured in a stampede at Mumbai’s Elphinstone railway station. The incident occurred during peak hours following rains. In this horrific incident, Sharayu Gavde, a 42-year-old woman was injured and suffered chest pain and vomiting


Lakhs of people travel from local trains, which is the life-line of Mumbai. And one amongst them is Sharayu Gavde. Unlike every day, Gavde left from home for her workplace, which is located at Jogani Industries in Parel. But little did she know that, an unfortunate incident will leave her scared for the rest of her life.

On the way to work, Gavde was accompanied by her colleagues when the rush-hour stampede took place on foot-over bridge linking Elphinstone Road and Parel suburban railway stations.

Gavde was one of the injured passengers who suffered chest pain and vomiting, after which she was admitted to KEM Hospital in Parel. Her brother Ramesh Gavde accompanied her.

After receiving calls from the administration, her colleagues, family and friends, reached KEM Hospital. Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Sharayu’s brother Ramesh Gavde said, “I was informed  by one of her colleagues who received calls from the hospital administration, after which, I reached the hospital.
